I'm so happy I could just ... blog

Sleeping is my new hobby

My 7th month checkup was today, which meant it was my first visit with my OB at the hospital. After the Dr. Doom fiasco I was nervous about going to a different doctor, but Dr. A. came highly recommended and did not disappoint. He was absolutely lovely -- friendly, even -- and to top it off my husband decided this morning to take a half day to come with me and check it out. What a sweetie. And you know, the doctor even moved up the potential birth date about a week! Let's say I have more of a probable range at this point and it's looking like the end of March. March! That's not that far away!

Anyway, things are looking good. My glucose test came back great, so no more worries about gestational diabetes nor an extreme sugar-free diet being slapped on again. Dr. A. showed me how to find the baby's back for certain and was just generally professional, knowledgeable and helpful. And did I mention friendly, which I think is a rarity? Don't get me wrong, I have had mostly positive experiences here -- and while I would definitely call most of the medical staff I've encountered quite pleasant and extremely professional, I can't call them warm and friendly. This is the first time I remember really laughing in a medical setting since moving to France. I know that I can't count on him being there when I give birth, but at least my first contact at the hospital was an extremely positive one. It has put my mind at ease, since there are plenty "fears of the unknown" lurking about at the moment.

Since we're now in the home stretch, we've started to think more about strollers, beds, car seats and the like. It doesn't hurt that the sales are on, either, I guess. I have come to terms with the fact that we aren't able to have a room for the baby (at least for a little while), although a bigger car is still definitely on my wish list. Still, if we must we did succeed in finding one decent stroller that will fit in the back of a Twingo. My husband managed to land us a used car seat for free today as well, so we'll see if that one will work for us.

So, life is good. I'm still pretty tired due to jet lag and sleep is hard to come by, but maternity leave is not that far away and for that I say God Bless the French. In some ways I will miss my students, but the days where I am gone from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. are wearing me down and the resulting contractions aren't any fun, either. I have this image of me cleaning the house from top to bottom in 3 days, reading all my pregnancy books, and knitting tons of sweaters while watching DVDs until the baby is born, but in all likelihood I will probably be napping, if this week is any indication. I've been reading blogs where moms-to-be are full of energy and productivity, but I can't say that I'm feeling the same way. I'm more leaning towards a sloth at this point.

YOur Doc sounds fabulous! Yipeee! Sleep is good, on my third nap yesterday I dreamt of a design for a nice to go diaper changing cloth that I might sew. Nap, nap nap and then nap some more, when you have the urge you will nest too!

Happy days ahead for you!!
