RIP Challenge III is here!

Woo hoo - I've been waiting a whole year for this! Last year I completed RIP II, which was my first (and still only) participation in a reading challenge, and had a blast with it. It did wonders for my post-vacation morale and this year's challenge is promising to do the same.

I'm choosing Peril the First, for which I must* read 4 books from any subgenre of scary stories by October 31st. If you're thinking that this kind of thing sounds kind of fun but you don't have the time, you can choose a different peril -- Peril the Third only requires one scary book.

I have been keeping an eye out all year for scary books I want to read, so I'm pretty excited about the pool of books I have to choose from:

The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield
Classic Ghost Stories, edited by John Grafton
Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley
Dracula, by Bram Stoker
L'homme aux cercles bleus, by Fred Vargas

and even though this isn't technically a scary book

Mort, by Terry Pratchett

Come and join us!

*Yeah, right, you'll really have to twist my arm for this.

I am so honored that R.I.P. is your only challenge thus far, thank you so much for joining in again!

Thirteenth Tale was delicious. Dracula is my favorite. I'm going to have to check out that ghost stories collection for sure!

Thanks again!

Sounds like fun, I loves me some reading. Too bad I'm a fraidy cat for scary books!

It isn't really scary, but have you heard of the series by Stephenie Meyer that starts with the book "Twilight"? It's about vampires in a modern setting...they're in high school, actually. I heart it a lot, check it out!

D and the kids love scary movies. Not that's it's realy scary but if you ask "A" what her favorite movie is she say's "Shawn of the Dead", which is very scary for a 4 year old! I'm not that big on scary stuff. I think I better keep it real.

The R.I.P challenge is a great one to have as your only challenge (so far).

Great choices for your pool. I loved The Thirteenth Tale, and Frankenstein and Dracula are both books I love to return to.

Look forward to your review posts!

Thanks for the comments and encouragement, everyone! I hope to have my first review up soon.

Leah -- you can definitely join in the challenge with the Stephanie Meyer series! I'm sure I've seen her books on other people's lists. The first one has been in my Amazon wish list for about a year...go for it!

K -- I can just imagine her at preschool when the kids are talking about movies!
