Originally I intended to write my non-baby-related post about my dream involving a certain presidential candidate *cough, cough* but instead it's going to be about my annoyance with Chris Chase who wrote the following comment on a Yahoo! sports blog:

To his credit, Bernard was gracious in defeat, clapping when the Americans
received their gold medals and shaking the hand of Michael Phelps after the
ceremony. Or maybe that was just his way of surrendering. The French are
pretty good at that one too.

Well, now, wasn't that a clever way to end his article? I just have no patience for that kind of thing. In general, the idea of the Olympics does appeal to me, although the reality is often disappointing what with the drugs and commercialism. I can tolerate a bit of "bluster," as he calls it, from athletes as long as it isn't mean-spirited, and I definitely appreciate a show of good sportsmanship. What irks me is this kind of petty barb toward nationalities, but when I think about it, this one is so old and overused that it merely merits an eye-roll. Moving on.

And what is up with the Edwards confession/scandal? That pisses me off more than anything, though not because I entirely buy into the argument that his private life shouldn't have any influence on how people view him as a leader. I don't know what the hell is going on or who to be pissed off at most. I'd like to give a few people a swift kick in the butt, first and foremost Edwards himself.

This is the first year Dan has enjoyed the Olympics. He is having a great time staying up as late as he can get away with it and watching. He picks out the US person and watches them and cheers them on. It's good to have pride in your own nation. Ahhh to be 10 again. He looks at them like super-beings. He went to the play ground and could hardly to a pull up. Made what they do seam realy big!

Oh yeah, as opposed to Americans who just turn tail and run instead of surrendering.

Je suis plutôt avec vous (tellement dégoûté que je sois prêt de me débarrasser de toutes choses américaines) triste.

And I realize that most of America is just as happy to be rid of me! Ha!
