Thanks for the comments, everyone! Maya, Chris, and Lareine -- very good guesses! Chris, you are correct, there are turnips in them there parts. Maya, you did very very well; 3 out of 4 of your guesses are definitely right. I guess you and I are eating similar things!
Lareine, this vegetable does look like a radish, the kind that I call 'daikon' or Japanese winter radish. I love them! I'm looking to see if it's related, but I don't think so. Here's a hint: it's definitely related to the carrot and it does have a strong flavor.
Karen, once I read your comment I can see how they do look like mushrooms!
That leaves the little wrinkly thing in the lower left corner, one of the foods that I craved during pregnancy! I usually eat it cold in a salad.
I appreciate everyone's comments and compliments! Here are the answers: turnips are indeed the veggies in the middle, and starting from the lower left-hand corner
cooked beet parsnip celery root (celeri rave) red cabbage

An on-line impulse buy, this is turning out to be one of my favorite books ever. It's just so fascinating to me.
Baby's Reading
We love the pictures of the barefoot farm family trying to figure out why baby is crying. I'd never heard of it until we checked it out of the library, and I think it's brilliant!

I was clueless, I'm glad you had previous commenters better at veggie decoding than I am :-0
Happy WW :-)
Great photo. Just as color and geometry, but the market shopping is intriguing as well.

I knew they were turnips, but got in pretty late on the game.
It's funny how they have the long turnips and the round turnips here. Another example of the vast variety in French food...
I love turnups!!! So does daniel.
