Ah, Sunday...my official day off. Today is Mother's Day in France and the in-laws are coming to visit, which is nice because it's been a while since they've been here. I've made a rhubarb custard cake for them...apparently S.'s father doesn't really like tart foods but I didn't find that out until too late. I added a little sugar so I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. It's one of my favorites, actually. I love rhubarb. It's funny how something that looks so much like celery can be so different and, well, not bland. The first time I bought some back home the cashier had to ask me what it was. I couldn't even feel smug about it because I myself had to ask another person to verify that what I had was indeed rhubarb. And even they didn't know. Rhubarb is definitely underappreciated in my neck of the woods.

Well, good luck and I hope they enjoyed the rubarb. We went to a pig roast yesterday with the A club and had a great time. It really was a whole pig. Wish you both could have been there.
Please put May on your calendar for next year especially the end of the month.

Oh, I love rhubarb too! I didn't really discover it until I moved to France though.

What do they call rhubarb here? Rhubarbe?

And I was wondering if you had any advice for me - I'm leaving next week to teach English in an Italian primary school for two weeks, and I'm trying to gather up materials, ideas for activites, games, etc this week. If anything comes to mind (either dos or don'ts), and if you have time, feel free to send me an email at tuck 0066 at yahoo dot com. Thanks!

Sam, I sent you an e-mail. Hope it's not too late. Let me know if it's what you were looking for or not. Have a blast with the Italian kiddos!

I am like you, a big fan of rhubarb. When we were kids, we would even eat it raw! :-)
