Grins for Grandma

Well, my mother is here and that means we have a houseful of happy women. Mom found the nickname for the baby that I think suits her best at the moment: Slobberjaws. Slobberjaws has been coddled, cooed over, talked to, held and kissed by Grandma to no end and has been so worn out by the end of the day that she's slept pretty well (for her). She thinks Mom is the funniest person around. I also have to give Mom credit for working Slobber's abdos enough that she can sit up unassisted in her pram.

Slobberjaws is doing very well at the moment and has finally gained (significantly) more than the minimally acceptable amount of weight per month. Before the answer depended on where you counted from and who was in charge of the scale, but now there's no question -- she's doing well. Now people want me to start her on solids, but by now I am confident enough to just smile and nod. I'm in no rush to give her anything that could cause more digestive problems...we just got over the last ones. When she is ready, I will give her food. But not before; I see no reason to rush things.

Her US passport came in the mail less than a week after we applied for it. I don't think you can beat that for service. I don't know how often they change passports, but hers has all sorts of pretty pictures on the pages along with inspirational quotes. Of course, we had to pay for that kind of prettiness and service, but that's another story.

I am feeling happier than I've been in...oh, I don't know when. Maybe it's the warm weather and blue skies that apparently tagged along with Mom, or the ripe fresh peaches at the local family-owned fruit market, or just good happy baby vibes (maybe calming hormones), but I'm hoping the worst is over. I only have minimal bald patches from hair loss as well.

Today's big accomplishment was my first real French cheesecake from scratch (usually I cheat a little bit with the crust). I'll let you know how it turns out, but it smells promising.
