Random Thoughts

Things are going better. I attended a La Leche League meeting yesterday since the leader was so kind in helping us get things straightened out. Feeding the baby is no longer painful, so that was a real revolution in mommyhood, let me tell you. It was nice to know I'm not the only one struggling with this.

My husband is very suspicious of LLL -- he thinks it's some kind of strange cult and perhaps it is. Since no one asked me to drink Kool-Aid (just offered me one of those health food cookies at the end), I'm okay with it. I do have to tell you, though, that my husband thought the baby came back smelling like patchouli. And I was not the only one in Birkenstocks, either. Actually, I really enjoyed the meeting since there was a supportive atmosphere and I got out of the house to meet people. Next thing you know, I'll be wearing an "I'm down with breastfeeding" shirt out in public. Anyway, even though I joke about it, LLL is the bee's knees at the moment.

I'm also in a particularly good mood because of rhubarb. I love rhubarb. It tastes good and I like the way it's spelled. I remember the first time I attempted cooking with it back home...I wasn't entirely sure what it looked like but I had a recipe I wanted to try. I went to the local Kroger and looked around until I found what I thought could possibly be rhubarb: a green and red celery lookalike. I took it up to the cashier, who promptly asked, "What's this?" I assured him it was rhubarb with much more confidence than I had by a long shot, but luckily for all involved I guessed correctly. And have been making a pretty yummy rhubarb custard cake ever since, if you will let me brag a bit.

Oh, I forgot to mention earlier that one of my husband's good friends made it to the semi-finals of Eurovision. His band did, that is. He played the trumpet at our wedding and is an all-around great guy. I'm guessing there isn't a Congeniality vote at Eurovision, but he would win if there were. He's one of the guys who took the time to ask me questions and get me to talk in my less-than-confident-about-my-French days. I will never forget him for that. Anyway, I think they were robbed since they were waaaaaayyyyy better than the winner. Apparently the jury weren't sensible enough to feel the love power, the fools. See the video, in which he doesn't get enough air time:

I am glad you found a group that makes you feel comfortable! I am sure they aren't a cult and if they are, just refuse that kool aid if they ever offer it!

Oh, they think everything is a cult in France, so I wouldn't worry about it. OK, so their definition of cult is a little different. But as long as they don't ask for a bunch of money and you don't drink the kool aid, OR EAT THE COOKIES, what can it hurt.
PS: Eurovision seems to be going down hill anyway... the music they pick gets stranger every year.

You might have figured this out already, but TF1 really is showing "Grey's Anatomy" in English!!

Haha. My mom used to be a LLL leader and would have meetings in our apartment in Paris. My dad STILL (25 years later) refers to them as the 'crazy, breastfeeding ladies'. He could never get over coming home to find the living room full of women, all bare breasted and talking away.
